Because financial firms do not report data to regulators in standardized formats, regulators cannot integrate information from dispersed sources to form a comprehensive understanding of the health of the system as a whole.  Effective regulation of systemic risk will require standardization of financial data.  Drawing on their deep professional expertise, members of Committee to Establish the National Institute of Finance have outlined a feasible plan for developing the data management infrastructure our regulators will need in order to safeguard the health of our financial system.
